अनेक बातम्यांबद्दल आपल्याला चर्चा करावीशी वाटते. खरं तर, ऐसी अक्षरेवर बातम्यांवर चर्चा करण्यासाठी बातमी नावाचा लेखनप्रकारही अस्तित्त्वात आहे. "ताज्या घडामोडी, अर्थकारण, राजकारण इत्यादी प्रकारच्या संस्थळाबाहेरील लिखाणाची चर्चा करण्यासाठी हा विभाग वापरावा. इथे मूळ लेखावरच्या शब्दसंख्येचे बंधन नाही; एखादी बातमी पसरवणे किंवा चर्चा घडवणे यासाठी हा विभाग वापरावा." असं तिथे स्पष्ट म्हटलेलंही आहे. पण, त्याबद्दल विस्तारानं लिहिण्याइतका किंवा एखादा व्यवस्थित चर्चाप्रस्ताव मांडण्याइतका वेळ किंवा माहिती किंवा उत्साह किंवा हे सारंच नसणं वगैरे कारणांमुळे आपण चर्चाप्रस्ताव लिहित नाही. शिवाय बऱ्याचदा "एकोळी" / नुसत्याच लिंका देऊन धागा काढायचंही जीवावर येतं. तेव्हा अशा बातम्यांवर चर्चा करण्यासाठी, एकमेकांना अशा बातम्या लक्षात आणून देण्यासाठी, त्यांचे दुवे देण्यासाठी हा धागा काढत आहे. एखाद्या बातमीवर विस्तारानं चर्चा सुरू झाल्यास त्या संवादाचे वेगळ्या 'बातमी' धाग्यात रुपांतर केलं जाईल.

साधारण दहा वर्षांपूर्वी गीतेवर भाष्य करणारं एक पुस्तक वाचल्याचं आठवतंय. त्यात काही श्लोकांचा दाखला देत असं म्हटलं होतं, की नास्तिक असणं हीही एकप्रकारची श्रद्धाच आहे. त्यात तथ्य किती आणि बाकी आध्यात्मिक नॉन्सेन्स किती ते माहित नाही. पण असला कायतरी विचार फक्त हिंदूंमध्येच आहे ह्या कल्पनेने छान वाटलेलं, की आपला धर्म किती तर्कशुद्ध इ. आहे. (बाकीच्या धर्मांपेक्षा.) असो. अशा गोष्टी ऐकून हिंदुत्ववाद्यांनी डोकी गहाण टाकल्यासारखी वाटतात.
अवांतर: ते गणेश देवींच्या व्याख्यानाबद्दल सविस्तर लिहीणार होतो. वेळ मिळाला पाहिजे.

कुठल्याही हिंदू गोष्टीला झुंडशाही, नि भगवेकरण इत्यादी लेबलं लावून मोकळे होतात. त्याहिशोबाने जेव्हा 'कोल्डप्ले'ने 'हिम ऑफ विकेण्ड'मध्ये बव्हांश हिंदूच संस्कृतीच्या खुणा भारतीय म्हणून दाखवलेल्या, तेव्हा ते ह्याच वर्गाला गोग्गोड वाटलेलं, कारण ख्रिस मार्टिन फायनली गोरी चमडी.
इतर ह्या लोकांनी जरा आवाज केलाच, पण तो दडपून गेला. दुव्यातला लेख वाचाल तर अपेक्षित कचरा हातास लागेल. हेच लोक ह्या ऑप्रेसिव्ह, रेसिस्ट, सेक्सिस्ट संस्कृतीचं लोणचं सणावारांना, लग्नादी समारंभांत का तोंडी लावतात हे कोडंच्चे.

Here a woman is being punished for becoming impure as she touched a 'rajaswala' (menstruating woman). Her chance to become pure is when she washed her husband's feet and drinks that water. This is an appalling even to think of it. When so many people and organisations are striving to deconstruct the taboo attached to menstruation, these regressive people wrongly influence the minds of young girls and women about it and refixing the ideas regarding impurity and shame. They are declaring a woman impure for touching during menstruation, Dasidharm etc. Where in our Dharm granth is this written that for shudhdhi they are asking the woman to wash her husband's feet and drink the water. It also shows that women are like slaves of their husbands and meant only to service them. This is what is being shown in to the households to women, children?

a) Immediately ban all such serials depicting women in bad light or demeaning them, and,
b) For the future, issue guidelines to producers as to do's and dont's of portraying women characters.Freedom of expression is agreed but it should not cross limits whereby they demean one gender against another and corrupt minds of people.

The Trump administration on Tuesday leveled more sanctions against Iran, targeting its elite military unit and ballistic missile program in a move that heightened tensions between the two countries and raised new questions about the fate of the 2015 international nuclear deal. The sanctions came after the administration told Congress late Monday that Iran was continuing to comply with the 2015 international nuclear agreement, a notification that kept the accord in place for now. But that determination came after an intense debate within the administration over whether to certify Iran’s compliance, according to officials familiar with the discussions. “This administration will continue to aggressively target Iran’s malign activity, including their ongoing state support of terrorism, ballistic missile program, and human-rights abuses,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in imposing the new sanctions Tuesday. Referring to the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mr. Mnuchin said, “We will continue to target the IRGC and pressure Iran to cease its ballistic missile program and malign activities in the region.”

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism at the University of Maryland noted in its Statistic Annex that the total number of terrorist attacks in 2016 decreased by nine percent and total deaths due to terrorist attacks decreased by 13 percent, compared to 2015. This was largely due to fewer attacks and deaths in Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Yemen. Although terrorist attacks took place in 104 countries in 2016, they were heavily concentrated geographically. Fifty-five percent of all attacks took place in five countries (Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and the Philippines), and 75 percent of all deaths due to terrorist attacks took place in five countries (Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria, and Pakistan).
