अनेक बातम्यांबद्दल आपल्याला चर्चा करावीशी वाटते. खरं तर, 'ऐसी अक्षरे'वर बातम्यांवर चर्चा करण्यासाठी 'बातमी' नावाचा लेखनप्रकारही अस्तित्त्वात आहे. "ताज्या घडामोडी, अर्थकारण, राजकारण इत्यादी प्रकारच्या संस्थळाबाहेरील लिखाणाची चर्चा करण्यासाठी हा विभाग वापरावा. इथे मूळ लेखावरच्या शब्दसंख्येचे बंधन नाही; एखादी बातमी पसरवणे किंवा चर्चा घडवणे यासाठी हा विभाग वापरावा." असं तिथे स्पष्ट म्हटलेलंही आहे. पण, त्याबद्दल विस्तारानं लिहिण्याइतका किंवा एखादा व्यवस्थित चर्चाप्रस्ताव मांडण्याइतका वेळ किंवा माहिती किंवा उत्साह किंवा हे सारंच नसणं वगैरे कारणांमुळे आपण चर्चाप्रस्ताव लिहित नाही. शिवाय बऱ्याचदा "एकोळी" / नुसत्याच लिंका देऊन धागा काढायचंही जीवावर येतं. तेव्हा अशा बातम्यांवर चर्चा करण्यासाठी, एकमेकांना अशा बातम्या लक्षात आणून देण्यासाठी, त्यांचे दुवे देण्यासाठी हा धागा काढत आहे. एखाद्या बातमीवर विस्तारानं चर्चा सुरू झाल्यास त्या संवादाचे वेगळ्या 'बातमी' धाग्यात रुपांतर केलं जाईल.

What works is competitive free markets with strict regulation.
In India, there has been no change in the accepted economic philosophy. The preference for public sector remains intact. All political parties share a statist economic philosophy which is unwilling publicly to acknowledge that it is private business which, while making profits, create jobs.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday launched an initiative to end the practice of manual scavenging in the state and deploy robots to clean the sewers. ‘Bandicoot,’ a robot developed by startup Genrobotics, will gradually be deployed across the state after testing it in Thiruvananthapuram. Armed with four limbs and a bucket system, it can be lowered into manholes, shovel garbage and sewage, and clear blockages. It is enabled with WiFi and Bluetooth, reported news agency PTI. Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister said, “From now on, robots will clean manholes. It is hoped that this technology will bring an end to the dangerous practice of cleaning sewers manually.”

कम्युनिस्टांच्या सरकारने टाटाला सिंगूर येथे पायघड्या घालून बोलावले होते आणि कम्युनिस्टांपासून मुक्तता देण्याची आशा दाखवणाऱ्या मोमतादीदींनी त्यांना हाकलून लावले.

सिंगूर मधे बोलावले पण ते सुद्धा मोटर कंपनीला. म्हंजे विसाव्या शतकातल्याचे तंत्रद्न्यानाला. व त्यातसुद्धा त्यांना हे दिसलं की मोटार कंपनीमधल्या कामगारांची युनियन चटकन बनवता येते.
सेलफोन, सॉफ्टवेअर, बीपीओ, आयएसपी अशांना नाही बोलावले. कारण - (१) सेलफोन, सॉफ्टवेअर ही २१व्या शतकातली तंत्रद्न्यानं आहेत. (२) त्यातल्या कर्मचाऱ्यांची युनियन बनवणे कठिण असते. अर्थात सेलफोन ही लेबर इंटेन्सिव इंडस्ट्री नसून कॅपिटल इंटेन्सिव्ह इंडस्ट्री जास्त् आहे हे माहीती आहेच मला.

शिवाय राजकीय पक्षांना मिळणाऱ्या देणग्यांना अपारदर्शकता मिळवून देण्याचे काम केले गेले असा काहींचा आरोप आहे.

There are two likely outcomes from this scam. Institutional responses to crises are always to tighten controls, increase verification, and generally increase transaction costs, rather than being smart. The second is that having let the rich off the hook the government will be even more pressured to be populist. मार्गदर्शक तत्त्वे यांना प्राधान्य द्या असा सरकारचा आदेश होता काही वर्षांपुर्वी. डिरेक्टिवज मोर इंपॅार्टन्ट दॅन अकाउंटबिलटी। म्हणजे काय सरकार एखाद्या आदेशाने निर्णय बदलू/थोपवू शकते. तिथे कर्जफेड होणार आहे या गृहितावर बँक बॅलन्स शीट गुटगुटीत ( सूजलेलीच असते तरी) दिसत राहते. मग एका योग्य वेळी ती कर्जे बुडीत आणि बँक तोट्यात दाखवाचा आदेश निघतो.

माजगावकर
मराठीत खूप वेगळ्या प्रकारचं साहित्य 'माणूस'मुळे आलं. हंसा वाडकरांचं 'सांगत्ये ऐका' हे आत्मकथन अरुण साधूंनी हंसाबाईंशी बोलून शब्दबद्ध केलं आणि ते 'माणूस'मध्ये क्रमशः प्रकाशित झालं. दि.बा.मोकाशींचं 'पालखी' किंवा 'अठरा लक्ष पावलं' हेसुद्धा 'माणूस'मध्ये प्रथम प्रकाशित झालं. श्री.ग. माजगावकर 'माणूस'चे प्रमुख संपादक होते. अशा पुष्कळशा वेगळ्या लिखाणामागची मूळ संकल्पना त्यांची होती. सुरुवातीला त्यात फिक्शन नव्हतं, कारण माजगावकरांची प्रकृती प्रामुख्यानं नॉन-फिक्शनची होती.
प्रकृती वेगळी
दोन्हींच्या प्रकृती वेगळ्या होत्या. 'सत्यकथा'चा भर साहित्यावर (लिटरेचर) होता, तर 'माणूस'मध्ये माहितीपर, राजकारणाबद्दल किंवा एकंदर समकालीन वास्तवाविषयी अधिक लिखाण येत होतं. उदा. 'नाझी भस्मासुराचा उदयास्त' - वि.ग. कानिटकर, 'एक होता कार्व्हर' - वीणा गवाणकर, 'टॉलस्टॉय' - सुमती देवस्थळे वगैरे आधी 'माणूस'मध्ये लेखमाला म्हणून आणि नंतर पुस्तक म्हणून प्रकाशित झालेले आहेत. ह्या लेखावरून अधिक कल्पना येऊ शकेल.
बाकी सर्व ठीक, परंतु...
...नाझी भस्मासुर, झालेच तर टॉलस्टॉय ही सर्व वास्तवे 'समकालीन' कशी? (रादर, कोणाच्या/कशाच्या समकालीन?)
टॉलस्टॉय बोले तो आमच्या आजोबांच्या बालपणीच्या काळातला, किंवा कदाचित त्याही थोडा अगोदरचा. (आमच्या आजोबांच्या बालपणी तो जख्ख म्हातारा होऊन मेला असावा.) आणि हिटलर... त्याच्या राजकीय कारकीर्दीचा परमोच्चकाल आमच्या आजोबांच्या मध्यमवयातला (नि आमच्या तीर्थरूपांच्या कौमार्यातला किंवा फार फार तर पौगंडातला). बोले तो, तोही आमच्या आजोबांचा नेमका समवयस्क नव्हेच - आमच्या आजोबांहून वयाने दहा ते पंधरा वर्षांनी तरी मोठा असावा. (किंवा असेलही कदाचित आमच्या आजोबांचा समवयस्क फार फार तर - हू नोज़! परंतु तरीही.)
बरे, हे लेख जेव्हा केव्हा प्रसिद्ध झाले (१९७०ज़? किंवा कदाचित १९६०ज़? मला ठाऊक नाही, तस्मात् चूभूद्याघ्या.), तेव्हापर्यंतही ही मंडळी 'करंट टॉपिक्सां'त घुटमळत असण्याचे काही कारण निदान मला तरी दृग्गोचर होत नाही. (चर्वितचर्वण होत असेलही. परंतु ते 'करंट टॉपिक्सां'करिता क्वालिफाय होईलसे वाटत नाही.)
